Getting Married on Top of Vancouver | Grouse Mountain Wedding

Imagine saying your wedding vows atop Grouse Mountain, surrounded by towering evergreens, rugged peaks, and sweeping views of the ocean and city below. The air is crisp, the sun casts a golden glow over the alpine landscape, and the distant mountains fade into hues of blue. Guests gather on a scenic terrace, their laughter mingling with the soft rustle of the trees, while the majestic backdrop of nature creates a setting as timeless as your love. This is exactly what Abigayle and Kaveesh envisioned when they planned their wedding and, as you can see, Grouse Mountain did not disappoint.

Wedding Prep on Grouse Mountain

Our photography journey with Abby & Kav began atop Grouse Mountain, where the couple had booked a number of their charming 70’s-style cabins. After greeting her family, Justina took a look around in search of the best light and oh, did she find some light! Kaveesh was already dressed and eager, so I took him for a stroll around the mountain to scout the perfect spot for their first look. Meanwhile, Justina stayed back to document Abigayle as she prepared for her big day, the unique light enhancing the intimate and nostalgic atmosphere. It was the perfect start to a day filled with love and adventure.

First Look and Portraits

While strolling around the mountain resort with Kaveesh, I found the perfect spot for their first look nearby the rental shop. It was perched up on a hill surrounded by ferns and forests as far as your eyes could see and had a gentle winding path so we could capture Abby’s approach. Their first look was perfect, like if you Googled “First Look Photos”, this is what you would want to see. Kaveesh was absolutely floored with Abigayle’s dress. The dress was an elegant off-the-shoulder gown, but what made it really unique was the transition from a fitted bodice to a half fitted and half voluminous tulle skirt – it was truly a dress that had it all.

After their first look we went for a walk around the mountain top stopping anytime we saw something interesting during this short moment before the couple would say their “I do’s”. We didn’t have to walk far before seeing something that piqued our interest. We loved the look of the seemingly abandoned chairlifts mixed with the late summer subalpine meadows. Abby’s flowing gown contrasted elegantly with Kaveesh’s light grey suit, while the vibrant fall blooms of her florals added a pop of colour to the natural palette of the mountain.

Georgia Straight Lookout Wedding Ceremony

The couple chose the stunning Georgia Straight Lookout at Grouse Mountain for their wedding ceremony, creating a breathtaking setting for their special day. We loved how they incorporated natural materials and vibrant fall florals, seamlessly blending with the surrounding alpine beauty. Abigayle and Kaveesh decided to forgo a traditional wedding party at the front aisle, instead reserving VIP seating for their three flower girls and one ring bearer, complete with snacks to keep the little ones happily entertained. The ceremony was filled with laughter, heartfelt moments, and a joyful atmosphere that left everyone smiling. It was a truly beautiful celebration, where love and happiness radiated in every detail.

Cocktails and Reception in the Timber Room

After their heartfelt wedding ceremony, Abigayle and Kaveesh seamlessly transitioned into a quick round of group photos with their immediate family, ensuring they had plenty of time to mingle with their guests. The cocktail hour and reception were hosted in The Timber Room, a cozy and inviting space with rustic wooden beams, warm lighting, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

The reception began with Abigayle and Kaveesh making a grand entrance, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. They immediately transitioned into a traditional Sri Lankan lamp lighting ceremony, a beautiful and symbolic ritual where the bride, groom, and their family members take turns lighting the lamp. This act represents the union of two families, coming together as one, and added a deeply meaningful cultural touch to their celebration.

The evening was filled with heartfelt speeches from family members that brought both tears and laughter, with Abigayle’s infectious laughter lighting up the room. It was a joyous celebration where love and connection were at the heart of every moment.

Lighting up the Dance Floor

As the formal events of the evening came to an end, Abigayle and Kaveesh were invited onto the dance floor to share their first dance.

Following their special moment, Abigayle took to the dance floor for an emotional father-daughter dance, made all the more charming by the matching sneakers she and her dad wore—a sweet nod to comfort and fun. As the music shifted, the dance floor came alive with energy as guests joined in, kicking off a night of joyful celebration and laughter. We ended our photography coverage with a stunning set of late-night photos, capturing the couple in front of their glowing neon sign with the city lights twinkling softly in the distance—a perfect end to a perfect day.

Thank you, Abigayle and Kaveesh, for allowing us to be part of your incredible wedding day. It was a true joy to capture your love, laughter, and all the unforgettable moments that made your celebration so special. We wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
