How to Spice up your Relationship during Quarantine
It’s safe to say that most of us are now in quarantine or practicing social distancing, and although it’s only been about a week for us in Canada, most of us are already experiencing a bit of cabin fever, and we totally get it. But being at home doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, in fact, David and I have been taking this time to relive our childhood by playing games and reading books for a bit of escape. With that said, here are some ideas to spice up your relationship during this COVID-19 Quarantine:
IF YOU LIVE WITH YOUR PARTNER:
Redecorate Your Space:
Have you been thinking of moving some things around, but haven’t had the time to get to it? Now would be a great time to play around with your furniture and decor to liven up the space again. Look through some decorating ideas on Pinterest together, and then set a date to tackle it together. It’s more fun if you play some music you both enjoy.
Give each other a Couple’s Massage:
Going through this situation is stressful, and if you’ve been finding yourself on the computer more often, chances are you have some tight shoulders. Well, this is where you both come into play.
Put on a tutorial on youtube and learn how to give each other some awesome massages, and then practice on each other! Here is a link to a YouTube Tutorial that teaches you basic massage techniques. David and I have actually taken a class with a local RMT last year and learned some great techniques that we still use, thanks to Gabriela over at Menyhart Massage Therapy!
Get your drink on:
We advocate on staying home, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try out new beers! In fact, if you are based in Vancouver, these B.C breweries will deliver right to your door!

Cook a meal together:
It might be hard to believe…or not hard to believe at all, but David is actually a much better cook than me. But I digress…cooking together is a fun and interactive way to connect with your partner. We’re also going to be doing a lot more cooking at home together with this extra free time, experimenting with different recipes that we haven’t tried before. Being that we just came back from Spain, a few of the recipes we will try includes Paella, Spanish Tortilla, Pintxos, and some refreshing Tinto De Verano. We suggest starting with choosing your favourite cuisine and going from there! There’s sushi night and taco night too!
IF YOU ARE AWAY FROM YOUR PARTNER DURING THIS TIME:
Being away from your partner, at any time, can suck. Thank goodness for the internet and phones. Here are some creative ways to connect with your love during this time.
Netflix Parties:
Host a Netflix party with you and your partner. Are there some movies that you have both been meaning to watch, or a series that’s been on your mind for a while? Now is the time to binge! Here’s the link to install Netflix Party to your Chrome Browser to start your Netflix and Chill.
Download an E-Book and read it together:
You’ll most likely read at different paces, but set up a time every couple of days to check in and update each other on your thoughts and opinions! Ta-da, you now have your own private and exclusive book club.
Share Recipes and Challenge each other:
Pick a recipe and challenge each other to a cook off. Video call each other as you’re cooking and be sure to take pictures of the final product. Whoever makes it best, wins! (Be fair with each other!). After the challenge, enjoy your meal together over video call. If you do it more than once, keep a running tally for when you can meet again to “reward” each other however you like.
Play Games Online Together:
There are tons of sites online that allow you to play a game together. Pogo is a free platform with hundreds of games. There is likely one that you will both enjoy!
That concludes our list of things to do with your partner while in Quarantine. If you are experiencing any symptoms or want to be better prepared, take a look at the list of resources below for more information.
