Brix and Mortar Wedding: Stepping into a hidden oasis in the heart of Vancouver
It’s the final moment before your wedding ceremony at Brix and Mortar. A chill runs down your spine, and you’re not sure if it’s from the anticipation or the crisp winter air. There’s no time to think. The heavy black drapes part with a whisper as you step forward, your silhouette momentarily swallowed by the darkness of the fabric. A gentle warm breeze greets you, carrying the scent of aged brick and fresh ivy. As you push through, the world beyond unfolds like a secret revealed—an intimate courtyard bathed in golden light, warm smiles glowing in your direction. But your eyes find only one person in the room—your husband-to-be.

The Sutton Place Hotel: Rewinding to Morning Wedding Prep
Earlier that day, in the quiet elegance of the Sutton Place Hotel, the morning unfolded in the warmth of loved ones. Jenna sat by the window, the city’s soft hum rising from below as Coco from The Love Team worked her magic. Nearby, her wedding dress swayed gently on its hanger, catching the morning light as her two nieces twirled around it, their laughter filling the room—perhaps already dreaming of their own wedding days to come.
Once Jenna’s hair and makeup were done, I brought her over to the window where I had laid out her wedding dress for a few portraits before she changed. The natural light was perfect, and we just played around—her energy was so fun to capture. It was all about keeping things light and effortless, letting her personality shine through while we created some beautiful, candid moments.

Quiet and Calm Morning Prep
While I was capturing Jenna’s morning prep, Justina was with Blake, documenting his. Unlike the lively energy in Jenna’s room, Blake’s space was calm and quiet—just him, getting ready in his own moment of reflection. Blake went for a timeless look, wearing a custom-fitted suit accented with elegant touches of gold and black. After getting dressed, Blake and Justina took a walk around the hotel, capturing some solo portraits while scouting the perfect spot for the first look.

A Touching and Emotional First Look
Justina found a quiet, intimate spot on the conference level of the hotel, the perfect setting for Blake to wait as Jenna made her way through the halls. The anticipation was palpable, a mix of excitement and emotion building with every step. As they finally saw each other, the world seemed to pause for a moment, just the two of them in their own bubble. We gave them time to soak it in before stepping in to guide them further.
From there, we continued their portraits in downtown Vancouver at the Law Courts above Robson Square, where sleek glass walls and concrete walkways met cascading greenery. The modern, open-air architecture created a stunning backdrop, blending urban sophistication with a touch of nature—an effortlessly elegant setting for their love story.

Black Tie Wedding Ceremony at Brix and Mortar
After their portraits, Jenna and Blake hopped into their private car and made their way to Brix and Mortar for their wedding ceremony. By the time they arrived, everything was perfectly in place, giving them a quiet moment to take in the space before their guests arrived. They were completely in love with how it all came together. With its inherent charm and character, Brix and Mortar needed little embellishment—the couple chose to keep it simple, adding just a few elegant touches to enhance the atmosphere. Rows of pillar candles cast a warm glow, delicate floral arrangements in fluted glass vases added a romantic touch, and scattered greenery wove everything together seamlessly.
As guests began to arrive, Jenna quickly slipped inside the restaurant, tucking herself away to avoid being seen. She took a quiet moment to put on her wedding veil and make any final adjustments before the ceremony. Meanwhile, Blake stood at the entrance, greeting guests with a warm smile. There was an undeniable buzz of joy and excitement in the air—every person in attendance meant something special to them, and you could feel the love radiating throughout the space.
The ceremony itself was nothing short of beautiful. Jenna and Blake’s vows were filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt promises for the future. As they exchanged words, their guests hung onto every moment, completely wrapped up in the emotion of it all. But no one felt it more than Jenna’s two nieces, who couldn’t hold back their tears as they watched their aunt say “I do.”

A Joyous Beginning: Toasts, Laughter, and Candid Moments
As Jenna and Blake walked back down the aisle as husband and wife, smiles beaming and hands clasped tightly, their first order of business was a celebratory champagne toast. Glasses clinked, laughter filled the air, and the energy of the night officially began to unfold. It was the perfect way to kick off the celebrations, surrounded by the people who mattered most. While I focused on capturing their family portraits, Justina moved through the room, documenting the candid moments of guests mingling, laughing, and enjoying the cocktail hour. From heartfelt embraces to clinking glasses, she caught the little interactions that made the celebration feel so alive.

Brix and Mortar Wedding Reception: Love, Laughter, and a Special Milestone
Jenna and Blake made their grand entrance into the Brix and Mortar reception, each holding a glass of their signature cocktail, their smiles reflecting the warmth of the room. The evening unfolded in the best way possible—delicious food, flowing drinks, and heartfelt speeches from family and close friends that left both laughter and tears in their wake. The intimate glow of candlelight and the soft hum of conversation created the perfect atmosphere as the celebration carried on. We wrapped up our coverage with their cake cutting, a sweet finale to a truly beautiful day.
This wedding holds a special place in our hearts—not just because Jenna and Blake are such kind and wonderful people, but also because it marked a meaningful milestone for us. It was our first wedding of the 2023 season, and for Justina, it was her first time away for an extended period since becoming a mom just three months prior. Being away from our little one was a challenge, but Jenna and Blake were incredibly thoughtful and understanding, making the experience all the more special.
Jenna and Blake, thank you so much for trusting in us to document your beautiful day!
