An Intimate Wedding at Sunwolf Riverside Resort & Cabins in Squamish, BC

Fergie’s Cafe and the cabins at Sunwolf Resort have been a staple in the Squamish Valley community for many years. Whether you want to disconnect from the noise of the busy city or reconnect with your friends and family, this place has it all. These are the reasons why Ashlee and Nick decided to host their Micro Wedding at The Sunwolf Resort, which is tucked away in the woods next to the the Squamish River. It was such a joy and honour to be hired as their wedding photographers and filmmakers for their wedding in Squamish.

Nick and Ashlee had originally planned to have their family and friends fly in from the UK and Australia to witness and celebrate, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans changed and rather than rescheduling their wedding, they opted to have an intimate micro wedding with their 6 closest friends. We’ve vowed to remain flexible for our couples in these difficult times. In doing so, we were able to create a sweet film for Ashlee and Nick that they will enjoy for the years to come.

Morning Mimosas Inside Their Quaint Cabin

It was very dark and storming morning – quite uncharacteristic for a late June day in BC. However, we kicked off with morning mimosas to brighten up the day. After some morning mingling, it was time to get dressed and prepped for the day ahead. Nick and Ashlee took turns changing into their wedding attire so that we could make use of the indoor living space for their first look. It was, after all, pouring rain outside.

Nick chose to go with a simple approach for his outfit – a pair of beige slacks, brown shoes and a white button up finished with a boutonnière of Gum tree nuts, eucalyptus leaves and white and purple thistles.

The dress, sure to impress.

Once Nick was finished getting dressed, it was Ashlee’s turn. Now, let’s talk about this gorgeous dress for a little bit. The dress was source from Everly Fine Bridal in Downtown Vancouver. It was important for Ashlee to incorporate some of her Aussie roots to this wedding (re:  gum tree nuts in the boutonniere). When she found this dress by Australian designer Carla Jenkins of Made with Love Bridal, it was love at first sight. The gorgeous lace detail and the beautifully plunging V neckline were a few of my favourite features of this wedding dress.

Scouting Sunwolf Prior to the Wedding

The first look is one of our favourite times of the day. Justina and I drove up to Sunwolf Resort prior to the wedding so we had a beautiful outdoor spot in mine. However, it was absolutely pouring outside earlier in the day and we didn’t want Ashlee’s train to get drenched. Being a wedding photographer means you have to be quick to think on your toes. Luckily, the living space of this cabin had some great natural light and a nice feature bookcase wall which we could use as a backdrop. Needless to say, Nick was very, very pleased to see Ashlee in her beautiful dress.

An Intimate Wedding Ceremony at Sunwolf Resort

By this time, the storm clouds had cleared and not only did it stop raining, the sun came out to give us a taste of summer. It was perfect timing for our little intimate ceremony. We picked out the perfect spot behind the cabins and in front of the woods. Their wedding ceremony was officiated by Steven from Whistler Elopements. Steven expertly crafted a story for their ceremony, personifying their relationship to a beautiful hike with twists and turns until they reach their summit. Ashlee and Nick said their I do’s between vases of pampas grass and wild flowers and surrounded by 6 is of their closest friends.

After everything was official and following a celebratory toast, the couple snuck away for some alone time to call their loved ones across the pond and let them know of the good news.

The New Fergie’s Cafe at Sunwolf Resort

Fergie’s was struck by misfortune when their kitchen caught fire in the spring of 2018. The entire cafe underwent an extreme makeover and didn’t reopen until the end of 2019… just in time for the pre COVID-19 rush. This was our first time visiting since their reopening and, my word, what an amazing space! Following the ceremony, we went to the new Fergie’s Cafe to have a few celebratory drinks and watch the clouds roll over the Tantalus mountain range.

You guys did it!

The sun was out in full force and we just had to take advantage of it. We headed off to the river for a few photos on the rocky beach, then hopped over the train tracks and into the woods, where were surrounded by moss covered vines, ferns and gigantic firs and cedars. We finished up our photos by the raging river before bidding farewell to Ashlee and Nick.

Nick and Ashlee, thank you again for having us come out to tell your story and share it with your friends and family. This wedding took two years of planning and you were given curveball after curveball. Luckily, you’re both great at hitting curveballs out of the park! Congrats again and wishing you (three) all the best in the years to come!
